IAWL - AUOLC Regional Stakeholder Engagement

The Institute for African Women in Law recently held an important event with the African Union Office of the Legal Counsel (AUOLC) in Addis Ababa, focused on advancing gender equality in the legal field across Africa. The event, part of IAWL’s Gender Equality in Law Campaign (GELC), tackled the real barriers women face in the profession and explored ways to support women’s leadership and growth. Rooted in raising awareness, advocating for change, and putting policies into action, the GELC aligns with the African Union’s commitments to gender equality, including the Maputo Protocol and the AU’s Strategy for Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment. This meeting highlighted new opportunities for collaboration and action, laying the groundwork for a future where women in law can lead and succeed on equal footing across Africa.
